Module Introduction: In the previous modules, we have delved into a deep understanding of the components of a university research ecosystem and used this information to make a diagnosis of research leadership gaps and challenges in our own institutions. We also examined what would constitute an ideal research ecosystem, the elements of which guided us in identifying actions that are needed to improve research leadership in our own institutions. In the fourth module of this course, we wrap up with four sessions that dive deeper into how we can take our university research ecosystems to another level. This involves a discussion on how built a robust innovation ecosystem alongside the research ecosystem and the processed involved in building and taking advantage of local and regional research networks to grow the research and innovation ecosystem even more. It should be noted that growing R&I ecosystems often times involves change and change does not come easy. Research leaders therefore need the skills and tools to manage the change in a way that leads to substantial and inclusive growth.
Session Outline:
- Session 4.1: Considerations for building vibrant innovation ecosystems in Low-Income Country HEIs
- Session 4.2: Building effective Research Networks
- Session 4.3: Leading change
- Session 4.4: Planning Activity 3: Finalizing your Leadership Action Plan
Curriculum
- 8 Sections
- 7 Lessons
- 2 Weeks
- Pre-activity 4: Rapid innovation support capacity assessment survey1
- Module 4.1Introduction: Innovations are part and parcel of the research ecosystem yet many LMIC HEIs have much weaker innovation ecosystems compared to research. To align with emerging global trends and ensure contribution to sustainable development, LMIC HEIs have the important task of nurturing a culture of innovation by building vibrant innovation ecosystems. In this session, we examine some of the key components of a functionally effective innovation ecosystem and what LMIC HEIs need to do.1
- Module 4.2Introduction: There is no understating the need to research networks as a means to expanding the fronters of research capacity for LMIC HEIs. Yet many LMIC HEIs are not connected to other researchers both within their countries and internationally. In this session, we examine what constitutes a research network. We then discuss the importance of building research networks, as well as the key considerations in building effective research networks.1
- Module 4.3Introduction: LMIC HEIs are often complex bureaucratic institutions where creating change is not only a lengthy process but is likely to be met with substantial resistance. Yet institutions can and do actually change. With the power of vision and the tools for influence, research leaders can quickly overcome the barriers to change, institutions to accelerate their research ecosystem growth. In this session, we examine the topic of ‘change’ and how researchers can harness the leadership tools to lead sustainable change in their institutions.1
- Module 4.4Introduction: During this training, we have undertaken different planning activities in which we have identified gaps and challenges in our institutions’ research and innovation ecosystems and proposed possible actions to improve these ecosystems. In this session, we shall put together these activities into a single leadership action plan. This plan can be either at the institutional level or at the academic department level depending on where you are located (your sphere of influence).1
- Module 4.5Innovation ecosystems in Low-income country Higher Education Institutions are a far cry from those seen in institutions from High Income Countries. Innovators in LIC institutions face a lot of challenges and the vast majority of innovations fail to transition to scale. In this Webinar, a panel of innovation capacity building experts discuss the challenges affecting innovation ecosystems in Low Income Countries. They share insights on priority strategies for building vibrant university-led innovation ecosystems in Low Income Countries and the support needed for such initiatives.1

Great work explained here
WOW! I have enjoyed the course, well organized and coordinated. Hope our engament and networking will be sustained.
Module 3 completed.
Module 4 looks interesting; leading to the action plan.
I have noted that the Certificate shows one name. Is it possible that you edit to include all my names?
I have requested for the certificate several times despite completing the course and passing quizzes but have not received
