In order for Higher Education Institutions (HEI) in low- to middle-income countries (LMIC) to be ready to help resolve the practical challenges that their communities and countries face, they need to be well-organized, well-managed and well-functioned. HEIs that’s universities, community colleges and TVET institutions in developing countries have similar impediments to their capabilities to work autonomously, to collaborate and to provide services – They are all government controlled with no financial, administrative, academic and research autonomy. Almost all HEIs in low-income countries (LIC) have poor internal organizational structures followed by poor delivery of educational instructions with very limited basic science labs.
Future development research interventions should be focused on changing the internal dynamics of the HEIs to bring them up to the 21st century research and academic HEI level with main objective to work with and in development research.
From the above discussion, it is clear that development research is quite different from conventional research since it focuses on the implementation of development interventions. the main purpose is to deliver development programs better.
As many universities in Low-and Middle-Income Countries (LAMIC) are transforming themselves into research-led universities, there is a need for them to focus less on Basic Research and more on development research which is more impactful to their households, communities and countries. Since development research tends to be more resource intensive, they may for example adopt a triple helix approach to research where the academia, government, and industry are involved and contribute towards the research. Good leadership in HEIs is also a very critical factor and greatly influences the success research activities.s.
That’s true. Development research needs a market as well so that researchers and HEIs focus is put on addressing community needs; market of products is good way to motivate stakeholders in basic research.
Very enriched reading regarding Development research, basic research as pure research has been our main aim so that students learn tough concepts. However, I think the concept of development research comes out clearly and strong; supporting the language writing but also coming to a ckoise
Very interesting, highly informative, and detailed module particularly for conceptualizing the concept of development research, its necessity, and its difference from other research types.
I have enjoyed the basic concepts of development, development research, and their relevance in terms of generating evidence for intervention design, monitoring, and evaluation as well as the ways how the results of development research should be packed to be used by relevant stakeholders.
I have enjoyed the development research and the sustainable Development Goals aiming at improving the quality of Life such as No poverty, Zero Hunger etc
This is a good introduction of the learning modules, just understanding how the approach of research is to be taken when it comes to development orientation

Just thinking, considering this poor internal organization, will it not be OK for each organization to find what works for them and ride with it?

Is there a difference between development research and empirical research?
So much to read
Very informative and enriching.

Nice staff. It provides insatiable urge to continue reading.
