Learn the basics behind Applied Improvisational Theatre through participatory exercises to drive storytelling and effective communication in your project. Learn to listen, accept, support, take risks, and let go of mistakes to better communicate with non-experts. You’ll engage in exercises to develop an elevator pitch, frame events as stories, and have challenging conversations toward speaking about your project concisely, developing stories, and listening and responding appropriately to stakeholders.

Objectives: 

1. To define applied improvisation and related skills
2. To review ways that universities and other organizations worldwide are using improvisation techniques in research communication training
3. To provide a rationale for the use of applied improvisation in research communication training, and
4. To provide example exercises and resources for further skill development
